Bonaire is a small island located in the southern Caribbean known for its pioneering role in the preservation of nature, in particular the preservation of the marine environment, and for its excellent scuba diving, snorkeling, and windsurfing, among other things. Kayak in the mangroves, the gentle bay or venture out into the open ocean for a real challenge. Enjoy the nature of the land cycling or mountain biking.

Many descriptions and slogans have been written about Bonaire: Best Kept Secret, Unhurried, Unspoiled, Unforgettable; Diver's Paradise; and the list goes on... The fact is that all these statements are true, and then some. Another truth is the statistic that over 30% of arrivals on Bonaire are repeat visitors
There are a number of reasons people visit our island. First timers generally have heard about the climate, the water, the sun and what there is to do. When asked, repeat visitors generally say that they did not have enough time to do all they wanted to on their first visit. If it is the third or fourth trip, the answer is basically the same but with this addition "It is the warmth and friendliness of the people" that keeps visitors returning year after year.
Bonaire has the reputation of being laid back, slower paced and very tranquil. The good news is that while this is all quite true, the island also offers a lively nightlife, fun places to visit and world class restaurants. When you first come to the island, you are a visitor, but when you leave, you are a friend.
The Bonaire Dive Festival has reached a milestone and become the island's most important conservation and dive event. This week long event focuses on the protection of the world's coral reefs and marine ecosystems and educates divers and snorkelers about what role they can play in conservation efforts.

Together with its co-sponsors CORAL and Rodale's Scuba Diving, Bonaire is hosting two weeks full of informative seminars, underwater photography, important environmental awareness projects, nightly cocktail parties, and last but certainly not least diving that will take you to a complete new level! You can rub elbows with some of the dive industry's environmental and photography greats and become part of the Dive Festival family sharing experiences with our friends who have been visiting us for years.
You can stay at any resort on island, dive with any dive shop and participate in as many or as few activities as you choose. "This year's festival gives attendees the freedom to truly customize their own program, staying as long as they choose, doing as little or as much as they choose, and participating in those activities that interest them most," commented Burney el Hage, Commissioner of Tourism for Bonaire. "Our goal is to have our visitors return home having had the experience of a lifetime at the Dive Festival, and looking forward to returning to Bonaire in the very near future," he concluded.

This year's festival is honored to have Philippe Cousteau Jr., son of legendary Philippe Cousteau Sr. who is best known for the award winning documentary series "The Underwater World of Jacques Cousteau". He will be giving presentations on his current and future projects as well as diving with the participants. Here are highlights of what you might expect:
• Evening presentations by some of the world's foremost conservationists
• Intimate dives with local naturalists and Dive Festival presenters
• Daily equipment and product demos
• Underwater photography clinics (beginner and advanced)
• A Taste of Bonaire food and culture festival,
• A Clean-Up Dive with local celebrity Dee Scarr
• Nightly parties
• Photography Evening with the Pros
• Photography contest with great prizes
• The Dive Festival will also showcase the Bonaire Marine Park and its marine protection initiatives.
